The various musicians were jamming when someone suggested Cortez try the organ. He was booked for a session at Clock Records to record his own single, but his voice was shot. He gained the nickname of Baby due to his youthful appearence and he dropped his last name (Clo-NEE) due to it being constantly mispronounced (as Clown-E). Leonetti and Venturini were adequate singers and they tried to keep things interesting by mixing it up with a little blues here (It's Yesterday, Going Down, Taking Care of You) and a touch of country there (The Quiz, Easter). Tunes like People and Purple Dog fall somewhere on the edge of heavy psychedelia with touches of early progressive rock. The opening track Traitor sets the pattern for much of what follow a blend of bluesy organ and fuzzy wah-wah guitar reminiscent of Vanilla Fudge and early Deep Purple.
